With regard to safety, McNetiq only uses permanent magnets for the Controlock® anchor points. In contrary, electromagnets on the other hand are always dependent on an external power source to function properly. If this power source fails, or if a malfunction occurs in the connection, this could have catastrophic consequences in safety situations.

Permanent magnets always have power. They can be switched in 3 different ways:

  1. manual
  2. mechanical (switched magnets)
  3. with an energy pulse (electro permanent magnets)

Electro permanent magnets are applied, for example, if a magnet is separated at some distance from the operator. Consider, for example, a crane operator who operates a magnetic pulley from a distance to lift steel objects.
